NIKON D5100 BUNDLE WITH 2 (VERY) NICE LENSES, BATTERY GRIP, & EXTERNAL FLASH
*I'm hoping to keep this as a bundle for now, but I will let you know if I decide to break it up.*
$950 for everything
CAMERA BODY: D5100
(Paid $899 new 3 yrs ago, now sells for $599 new)
LENS 1: Tamron 17-50mm 2.8
(Paid $600 new 1 1/2 yrs ago)
Has amazing lowlight capability with a 2.8 aperture!
This lens blows any kit lens out of the water!
LENS 2: Nikon (Nikkor) 40mm 2.8 Macro
(Paid $300 less than a year ago!)
Takes beautiful close-up photos in low light
I chose these lenses because:
(1) I love a 2.8 aperture; my kit lens didn't do that so I sold it soon after I got it and I purchased the Tamron to replace it. It has a better reputation than the Nikon 17-50 2.8 lens and is in great shape. The motor is a tad louder than others, which still means you can barely hear it :o)
(2) I have small children. They make our house messy. A low aperture means all the clutter BLURS right out, so I can whip out my camera while we're playing and get a great shot.
(3) I do a lot of newborn shoots, and shoots with small children. 2.8 lenses are FAST; the lower aperture ratings help you keep a faster shutter speed to catch those brief moments of eye contact or sleep smiles.
I chose this camera body because:
(1) When it first came out in 2011 (the same week I bought it), it had features of cameras far beyond its price tag. After talking to Christopher Balmer, the owner of Perfect Light Studios in Idaho Falls (who I purchased this camera from and received the bulk of my formal photography education from), I know it still is an incredible camera. It has the sensor of a $1500 camera body and has far-reaching ISO capabilities. It debuted a lot of new features in a smaller Nikon body, which have held their value and are still considered top-notch. This camera is not outdated; it will be manufactured for several years by Nikon.
I have babied this camera. It has had regular sensor cleanings by Perfect Light and I have never had a single problem with it. It also records 1080P HD video, which is a really fun feature! The screen flips out and can swivel around, which is also a nice feature.
ACCESSORIES INCLUDE:
Battery Grip:
I love my battery grip! It allows you to house 2 batteries (2 Nikon EN-EL 14 batteries included) at once and extends battery life. It also adds a bit more body space to grip to when you're shooting--another pro when I have little kids jumping all over me! Any camera I own will have a battery grip on it. I can shoot for 8+ consecutive hours (and I have!) without losing even half the power of these batteries.
External Flash:
I chose this flash because it was the best brand besides Nikon for my camera. I chose to invest in the Tamron lens instead of a cheaper lens and a Nikon flash, and I've never regretted my choice. I used this flash to shoot a wedding and reception and had great results in terrible lighting conditions. It takes 4 AA batteries that last a long time.
